I am sure that you all know about the volcano, and how it is affecting the UK, and the rest of Europe.
It is affecting me particularity as my dad is stuck in Miami, which to some may sound like a dream but since my dad is there on business its not a good thing.
I hope everyone gets back and that the volcano's plume of ash stops soon, so that people can get home
With the Apple's Ipad and the JOO, HP's Slate and the future ASUS, HP Google Tablet ect is there any point in then... simple answer no.
What a tablet is now is great and what it can do is also great, it has all the things, that a device for £100 ($150) should be.
What I mean is that the future of tablets will be a simple internet device which will replace tv's in people's kitchens, photo frames, gaming devices ect.
It will be the all purpose device we all want and need in our lives, not the current generation of over priced pointless devices that are not a fully internet device and something which is to be used only for the house, it's a statement of a person and who they are.
I personally would want an ipod, if it was the touch's price and I put it in my kitchen on the wall, and when I am cooking I can just open up the browser find the recipe I need and listen to music at the same time.
Reviewing this blog post, I now understand what tablet means for the industry and that is a subsection of the market which will then reveal more subsections. What I mean is that the name tablet is too broad, what will happen is that there will be a section of tablets for kitchen (without a battery and are fixed in one place),
the bedroom tablet (with a battery designed for books, and reading with some games of course) and the photo tablet (a photo frame tablet that can be used to surf the internet as well as pop in photos from facebook albums, or random photos.)
So I gave my old desktop to my nephew as a kind gift, which left me with the means of buying a new desktop.
So I got a:
Gigabyte H57M-USB3
core i5 650 (3.2ghz)
4GB DDR 133MHZ Ram
Case with 700w PSU
ATI 5770
Wireless N
(I kept my hard drives / cd drives from my previous desktop)
So far nothing. I get a constant beep when I turn it on, which I believe to be the ram, so I am having to spend even more money buying more ram to see if my theory is correct.
If not then it's either the power or the cpu, though I have my doubts.
For my first time making my PC from scratch this is not a good experience. Though it could be my fault for buying cheap ram, only time will tell.
*I shall upload a photo of it, when I get my new ram *
For the first time in my life I decided to shop online, as it's easier and can add things over a long period of time.
I first checked out Asda's offering, and though there is a lot of focus on their deals which is great. There is a definite conflict of interest, as their website says for best performance they want people to use ie8 & firefox 3 however the website takes non of these browsers increased performance into account (well not that I have seen anyway).
Next up the UI, and it's horrible, they try and cram as much information as they can in such a small space, and if they cannot fix the entire name of a product they put ... and then require the user to highlight over, and sometimes that still does not tell all. The over all main issue is that non of the products are high resolution. This is a huge problem which they need to sort out, even when clicking the product to find out more information, it is still a low resolution photo.
They do have a few UI things which makes the experience easier which consist of a quick add to basket function and increasing the quantity. They also don't hide much when it comes to offers, they sow it, though that causes other items to be hidden.
Over all the website is good, though still has a long way to go. I would have to assume that if you use it as your main way of shopping that it will become easier to use and features such as shopping list to quickly find items will become a great addition but for me, it's a pointless add-on.
Windows phone 7 has interested me ever since it was revealed, it seems to be the middle ground between what the iphone os is and what windows phones used to be.
Now I was one of those haters of windows on phones, I just couldn't work it, seemed very pointless and clunky (though the two people who have used windows' phones say they love it).
Below is a video demonstration of office on windows phone 7, and I have to say it's very promising for the OS, though I can see the animation getting annoying.
I am now back at University which means coursework deadlines, lectures and bbqs.
Though I now only have 2 months left of uni it's one of the busiest times of my life, as I must sort out a placement for next year and do a lot of work which I have yet to do.
I am yet though focused on the challenges ahead unlike how I was over Easter, so I hope my next blog post will be less about me and more fun things... maybe another fail blog video =]
The Microsoft Courier is now dead which is a same as it was one of the most innovating thing to come from Microsoft in a long time.
The Courier it's self is a duel screen tablet, with a stylist and touch screen capabilities. It was going to be based off windows CE or the Zune OS with ti's own custom UI.
It had amazing videos of how the concept was going to work, and from my point of view it was going to be my paper pad replacement. To me it felt that microsoft had created a device for people who used OneNote and designed an OS around it.
It is a same that it died but hopefully it will come back if enough people or interest in the product hit Microsoft.
